SmartScratcher estimates the remaining ticket count using the published odds and prize claims. That lets us show you the actual current odds for each tier, not just the ones printed at launch.
We use the published overall odds (provided by the lottery at launch) combined with the current number of remaining prizes. From those two numbers, we can work backwards to a reasonable estimate of tickets still in circulation.
With large prize pools and millions of tickets, the law of large numbers makes these estimates very reliable. It's the same kind of statistical reasoning casinos and actuaries use.
