Onyx is a $5 scratch-off from the Illinois Lottery (game #7649) with overall odds of 1 in 4.2 at launch. All 3 top prizes of $600,000 have been claimed — none are left to win. The biggest prize still out there is $10,000, with 4 unclaimed, and an estimated 24% of tickets remain. Across every prize tier, 342,005 prizes are still out there (it started with 1,426,256).
"Onyx" is well into its run, with about a quarter of its tickets still unsold. Late in a run, a game is worth a look when prizes outlast tickets. Early on, the prize design matters most. Here, a smaller share of the top prizes is left than of the tickets, which is a reason to be careful.
Everything here about "Onyx" comes from official Illinois lottery numbers, current through October 18.
